5 Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy
Even if you have never been a health nut before, once you become pregnant, you are probably much more concerned about your health and looking everywhere to find tips for having a healthy pregnancy. When you are pregnant, your health is directly related to the health of your baby, so it is important to do everything possible to be healthy during this time.
There are many ways to do this, but here are five tips to get you started:
- See a doctor before getting pregnant. One of the best ways you can have a healthy pregnancy is to get started on good health before you even get pregnant. Getting a full check-up from your doctor and addressing any outstanding issues will make it easier to be healthy once you are pregnant. Additionally, your doctor can recommend a folic acid supplement to start on before your pregnancy that will help your child during development.
- Listen to your doctor both before and during pregnancy. It is not enough to go to your doctor – you have to listen to the advice you receive while you are there! Whatever your doctor tells you to do to improve your overall health will also help your child be healthier, so listen carefully, take notes if necessary, and ask questions to clarify anything you don’t understand.
- Exercise regularly. This is another thing that is best started before pregnancy. Take a workout class geared toward pregnant women or just walk for at least 15 to twenty minutes daily. Regular exercise has been shown to make pregnancy easier as well as delivery, so it’s definitely a way to have a healthier pregnancy and a healthy baby.
- Get enough sleep. Eight hours a day is the absolute minimum, and don’t be afraid to take naps during the day if you are having a hard time sleeping at night. Your body is doing a lot of work to create a healthy environment and foster the baby’s development, so help yourself and your baby by giving yourself the rest you need.
- Avoid toxins in alcohol, smoke, and certain foods. Certain toxins that your body can handle are too much for the baby’s system including alcohol, cigarette smoke including second hand smoke, mercury and caffeine.
While there are many other ways to be healthy during your pregnancy, these five tips will get you started on a healthy pregnancy and baby!
