Alternatives to the baby bouncer

Baby bouncers are a popular choice for parents looking for a way to soothe their infant that does not require standing, walking, holding, and bouncing the baby themselves. This is not because parents do not want to hold and bounce the baby themselves, but because it can be too physically demanding for them to manage.

However, not everyone wants a baby bouncer, so luckily for those looking for something better, there are many alternatives to traditional infant bouncers available.

Alternative baby bouncers

Depending on your reason for looking for an alternative to a traditionally baby bouncer, you may be happy with one of the many bouncers on the market that are similar to a standard one. For example, parents who want something sturdier may choose to purchase a baby bouncer that can be mounted on a doorframe, where they may feel more confident that their baby will not tip over.

Other parents want something more mobile than a traditional bouncer, so they may purchase one that allows the baby to move around the house while bouncing and playing with the mobile or toy bar.

Infant swings

Some parents find that an infant swing is a better choice for soothing their infant than a bouncer. The swing provides constant motion in a safe harness and is both heavier and more substantial than a baby bouncer. If your child prefers the motion of a rocking chair to being bounced, then he or she may prefer an infant swing to an infant bouncer, making it a more effective soothing tool.

Exercise or bouncing balls

For many parents, the window of usefulness of both infant bouncers and swings is simply too short to justify this purchase. Both products are designed for babies who can support their own heads, which usually happens around four months. But due to the height and weight limits on both products, babies can easily outgrow them by six or eight months.

One alternative to a baby bouncer that has a longer lifespan and more uses is an exercise ball, also referred to as a bouncing ball.

You have probably seen these types of balls at the gym, but they have many more uses outside a formal workout setting. Many women purchase them while they are pregnant, using the ball to strengthen their core muscles to help with pregnancy and delivery. They can also be a comfortable alternative to chairs during this period.

Multi Use = Greater Value

Afterwards, parents use them to sit on while bouncing their infants. The ball does not take up a great deal of space, making it a good choice for families without a lot of room, and some of the balls on the market come in attractive colors and patterns to complement your new nursery. Additionally, bouncing the baby on the ball uses different muscles than standing and bouncing, so it will not hurt your back and legs.
